Located in the center of Honolulu and adjacent to the historic Thomas Square Park, the Neal S. Blasidell Center is situated at an ideal location to attract audiences from both from downtown and Waikīkī. Since its celebrated opening more than 50 years ago, the 22+ acre site has remained relatively unchanged despite its well utilized community spaces and performing venues. In order to re-establish the Center as an iconic gathering place to perpetuate community, entertainment, and culture, the project team focused on creating a plan to further diversify the mix of venues, increase outdoor public space, and expand capacity. As part of the City’s master planning team, WCIT Architecture participated in assessing existing conditions, engaging public/stakeholder recommendations, programming and space planning in response to economic market analysis, and creating architectural designs and visualizations of alternatives.
